Wilfredo Miranda

My name is Wilfredo Miranda. I was born on October 7th, 1977. I was born at the Adocate Illinois Masonic Hospital .

Like my greatgradmother I have a condition known as Albinism which causes little to no pigmentation in the hair, skin, and eyes. Both my great grandmother and myself, as well as my youngest brother lacks a milanin producing enzyne. Without this enzyne, pigments can't form. This is why I look Whit but I'm actually Porto Rican/

I am currently attending the International Academy of Design and Technology in Chicago Illinois.
I am currently participating in IADTs Visual Communications program and majoring in Multimedia Design. Throughout my years at IADT, I faced a lot of unexpected challenges. There's a lot more involved in media production then just sitting in front of computer and compositing images, audio, and/or video. You have to be on top of your game. Forming networks, understanding the detailed fundementals of design, and working well in a team envioment are just some of the requements. It is a little overwhelming, but I still want to this a try. Afterall, what's the wrerst that could happen; have an employer say "You don't get the job." I'm already poor so I don't have nothing to lose and so much to gain
I am looking to earn a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts.

I believe my strength comes for the ability to solve many problems. I also like to negotiate all possible solutions. I believe what energizes me each day is to work on things that I love to do. I have many interest especially in areas that deals with technology and design, this is why I decided to attend IADT Chicago. Many of my friends say that I am work very well in these fields. Some friends say that Im good in connecting equipment. Others say I'm good in journalism because i keep audio diaries on tape. My girlfriend says that I am very talented with computers. Overall I say that I'm good with electronics in general. I also spend my leisure time doing some audio editing at home, although I also love to do image and video editing. I also believe myself to be both PC and Mac Proficient, which can be a good advantage.

In a year from now I would like to be in a steady job and my own place to live. I dont expect to get into a real big position by this time but at least something stable. In about ten years from now would like to acquire a high position such as audio editing for various clients. Combining my love for music and my proficiency in computers is something that I always wanted to do. I would like to spend my days doing what I love to do, which gives me a purpose in life. I would like to work in advertising and film post-production. To me, this is a way to earn an easy and honest living. I know that this field will involve stiff competition, but I still want to give it a try. In ten years I hope to be where I strive to be and earning a good living. My girlfriend and I are planning to get married and have our own home and she will be proud of me because I never gave up on my dream career.

I would also like to work in Graphic Design, perhaps to make CD covers. I would mainly like work for the music industry because I love all kinds of music and as an editor I could help every song come to life. I would also consider making web sites to promote new music.

As soon as I graduate from school, I will be searching various sources for employment. I will have my portfolio and resume ready. Im hoping to make a decent income in doing what I like to do.

I also like to be independent and take care of things on my own. However there is a downside to that. One of my weaknesses is that I tend to be more focused on doing things by myself that I sometimes miss the opportunity to forge new relationships. Usually Im very shy especially when there are a lot of people around me. I am also partially sighted which puts me in a huge disadvantage compared to my peers. I try to overcome these setbacks and strive to do the best I can to overcome challenges.

Presentation is a must especially when it comes to any design. This is why bosses and clients need to see only the best that I do.

I would like to show them that Im talented and hard working. I would also show any client how I would make use of all my skills especially in audio editing and/or web page designing. Some of my work is already in the internet, mainly on MySpace and YouTube.

I like doing this because I everyone to see what I can do and its accessible on any computer and some mobile phones.

I know the first thing that comes to everyones mind is my ability to manage in a design field with my visual impairment. Well, that part of my way of presenting myself and showing that I can overcome all odds and my ability to adapt to circumstances. I like to show them that despite this setback I could still be as successful as anyone else by researching and getting the accommodations that I need to do just that.

I also present myself by polite and open with my peers as well as instructors and future employers. I like everyone to know that I am open to new ideas.

One main strategy that I have is to use my technical skills and my familiarity with computers. I also use adaptive software such asZoomTextand the simple magnifier on the PC so I could always be able to see whats on the screen.

Another strategy is to keep up-to-date with new technology and programs that would help me in my productivity and design. Though at this time I have very stiff income but I make use of what is available to me. I usually research up-dated technology, make use of free software for my home computer such as Audacity, and use the mare advanced equipment and software in school.

Being in school helps me to develop techniques on how to spend my time efficiently. The main evaluation technique is to ask all my friends and peers what they think of my productivity. I also ask then what I can do better. Sometimes I get great feedback mainly when I ask my instructers and adviser at school.

Sometimes I draw insperation from my friends at the most unusual situations. I remember one time my girfriend comented that I always have my head in the clouds. That coment inspired a consept for an anti-drug ad. Another friend gave me an idea on how to improve a poster that I was working on for the movie JAWS. He suggesed that I put blood in the water to make it look more scary. Drawing inperation from the most awkward situations does help me a lot and I believe it will help me very far.
